Consortium

The e-TRUCKS project brings together six strong partners from academia and industry, working collaboratively to develop next-generation lightweight, high-performance steel suspension solutions for battery electric trucks.

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH)

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest University in Greece and one of the leading educational institutes of its kind in Europe, with ~88.000 active students, ~1.450 teaching-research staff members, ~170 members of the special administrative-technical staff and 190 administrative personnel. AUTH participated in a total of 12 projects funded by the Research Fund of Coal and Steel, within the past 10 years. AUTH is the coordinating organization of the e-TRUCKS project ensuring the seamless workflow of all the project activities. Besides the project management of the project, also participates in scientific and technological project tasks, such as theoretical and computational work on material and processes modelling, as well as in dissemination, exploitation and communication activities.

Sidenor Investigacion Y Desarrollo, S.A. (SIDENOR)

SIDENOR is one of the European leaders in special steel long products. With an installed capacity of 1 million tons per year, it produces straight bars (round and flat), bar in coil and wire from a range of 5.5 to 220 mm diameter of high-quality engineering steel grades. Sidenor investigación y desarrollo (SIDENOR I+D) is the research and development center of SIDENOR. The Centre has extensive experience in carrying out projects funded by Research Fund for Coal and Steel over several years, either as coordinators or as partner. Currently, SIDENOR I+D is participating in 29 European funded projects, 15 of them are funded by Research Fund for Coal and Steel. SIDENOR I+D role will be mainly focused on the manufacturing at industrial scale of the high strength steel grades to be developed and the corresponding metallurgical characterization. Also participates in the alloys and steelmaking process design, characterization, and optimization, evaluation of results and dissemination activities.

Muelles Y Ballestas Hispano Alemanas Projects SL (MBHA)

MBHA Projects is the Research Centre of “Muelles y Ballestas Hispano Alemanas, S.L.”, which is one of the main European leaf springs manufacturers. Its portfolio covers all kinds of leaf springs (parabolic, conventional and air link) for light, medium and heavy trucks, with a market share for heavy trucks of 55%. MBHA will be involved in the development of the new SSP technologies (WP4), thermal treatment of flat bars, manufacturing and fatigue testing of downscaled leaf springs with the serial and new manufacturing processes, as well as design, production and testing of the full-scale prototype leaf springs.

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)

KIT is a renowned University and Research Centre for scientific/technological aspects on European level. It participates to e-TRUCKS with its Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, which focuses on research, teaching and innovation in the field of materials science. The Institute is a research centre with a wide experience in peening technologies, residual stress analysis and fatigue behaviour, its members being part of the International Scientific Committee for Shot Peening.KIT will participate in scientific/technological project objectives, such as the determination and assessment of material properties, the development and validation of the material models, and support the failure analyses on downscale and full-scale tests. Furthermore, KIT leads the dissemination/exploitation and communication activities.

Stresstech GmbH (ST)

Stresstech GmbH (ST) was founded in 1999, and is part of the Stresstech Group, headquartered in Vaajakoski, Finland. The development and manufacturing of the non-destructive testing technology “Barkhausen Noise Analysis” is a main part of ST’s business, together with the production of residual stress measuring equipment using X-Ray diffraction and hole drilling. Application fields include quick testing of grinding processes and control of machining processes like shot peening, hard turning, or milling. ST is involved in most project activities regarding residual stress measurements and material microstructure analyses within its testing laboratory, as well as participating in the communication, dissemination, and exploitation of the project outcomes.

Iveco-Magirus AG (IVECO)

IVECO is one of the world leaders in road transport. It designs, manufactures, and sells a wide range of light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, and with the Iveco Bus brand, vehicles for transporting people. With approximately 25,000 employees, Iveco is present on all five continents, with 24 plants in 11 countries and 6 research centres developing advanced technologies. In the project, IVECO will be involved in leaf spring design and testing with senior mechanical engineers. Their contribution includes stress measurement and calculation, design of suspension systems for heavy trucks (>18 tons), fatigue bench validation, and strain measurement for correlation with new vehicle architecture. IVECO will co-design the full-scale prototype springs with MBHA.
